Cargo insurance in transit, from origin to Cancun
Insurance gets booked with the freight, not after something has already happened.
One policy that stays with the cargo even when it changes ship, truck or hands.
Cargo tends to get damaged exactly where nobody wants to own it: a transshipment, a lift, a yard. So we cover it under a single policy, from the origin warehouse to delivery, with no gaps between one leg and the next.
And if something arrives damaged, you're not left alone with the paperwork: we build the claim with you and stay on it until it's settled.

One less errand and no stray policies.

How a shipment gets insured
You declare the value
The commercial invoice plus the freight. The premium is calculated on that sum and, if it comes to it, so is the payout.
The certificate leaves before the cargo does
Cover starts when the goods leave the origin warehouse. Insuring after departure, or after damage, isn't possible.
Covered on every leg
Truck, port, ship, customs, warehouse and delivery: the same cover, with no gaps between one carrier and the next.
If something happens, we claim with you
We gather the evidence, put the documents together and follow up with the insurer until payment.
What's different in the Caribbean
June to November is hurricane season. A container can sit for days in port or in a yard waiting for shipping lanes to reopen, and humidity and salt air are unforgiving with furniture and poorly packed electronics.
On top of that, almost everything that reaches Cancun goes through at least one transshipment and a long stretch by road. Every lift is a chance for a knock or a shortage. A carrier's legal liability is limited — calculated by weight, not by what your goods are worth — and insurance covers that gap.

What's always worth insuring
What can't be replaced quickly
Custom furniture, commercial kitchen equipment, elevators. If it's damaged, the replacement takes months and the opening date won't wait.
Fragile goods and high value per kilo
Glassware, china, lighting, electronics, artwork.
Cargo that changes hands often
The more handling, the more risk. Consolidated cargo and anything crossing the country by road belong here.
Frequently asked questions
What does cargo insurance cover?
Physical damage and loss during transport and handling: vehicle accident, water damage, theft, drops during loading or unloading, general average at sea. The exact scope depends on the cover you take — all-risk or named perils — and we give it to you in writing before shipping.
How much does it cost to insure a shipment?
The premium is a percentage of the insured value — goods plus freight — and varies with the type of cargo, packing and route. We quote it together with the freight so you see it in the same document.
Isn't the carrier's liability enough?
No. By law and by convention, a carrier answers up to a limit calculated by weight or per package, and only when its fault is proven. For valuable goods, that limit is usually a fraction of what you lost.
Can I insure cargo that has already left?
No. Insurance is taken out before the goods start moving. That's why we quote and issue it together with the freight.
What do I do if my goods arrive damaged?
Note it on the delivery receipt before signing, photograph the packaging and the damage, keep everything as it arrived and tell us the same day. That's what the claim is built on.
